Arsenal Opinion – Why Arsenal should beat PSG for Ander Herrera
According to a report in Daily Mail, Premier League giants Arsenal have joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera on a free transfer this summer. French champions Paris-Saint Germain are the other candidates of that race.
The Spaniard himself admits that his future at Old Trafford is up in the air following delayed contract extension talks. (h/t Daily Mail) The negotiations of a new deal began 18 months ago, but no conclusion is on the table until now.
Although United are still hopeful to crack the code and make the 29-year-old stay beyond this summer, but if the contract talks doesn’t bulge, then nothing can happen.
As per the report, Herrera is looking for much improved contract terms on the table to sign an extension. His current salary is £80,000-a-week and he wants the new one to be close to £150,000-a-week. (h/t Daily Mail)
With a possibility still on the cards, here’s why Arsenal should beat PSG in signature of the midfielder:
Arsenal could get a tenacious versatile midfielder
Arsenal have some quality options in midfield with the likes of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey holding the baton in the middle of the park.
However, with the expected departure of the latter to Juventus in the summer, the Gunners would require someone who can play various roles in midfield, just like the Welshman.
For that reason, Ander Herrera could be a great addition. The United midfielder can play as a number 10, as a floating central midfielder or as a deeper-lying midfielder. Hence, he has got all the versatility to help the team in many aspects.
Furthermore, the Spaniard’s work rate and tenacity in midfield could be positively contagious to this Arsenal team.
