Arsenal opinion: Emery should make a move for Jordan Veretout

The Metro has reported that Arsenal are interested in making a move for former Aston Villa and Serie A star Jordan Veretout. Currently contracted to Fiorentina, Veretout spent a season with Aston Villa in the Premier League, making just fewer than 30 appearances for the club.

While his spell with the Lions wasn’t bad, Villa were relegated and the 26-year-old left. He eventually joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2017 with a cameo at Saint Étienne, where Veretout honed his skills.

A capable midfielder, Veretout has the ability to play either as a number 10 or in a more-deeper number 6 role.

However, it’s as a number 8 that he really flourishes, thanks to his blend of creativity and defensive nous. A lot like Aaron Ramsey that way, Veretout has the ability to make late runs and is more defensively sound than the Welshman.

He showed his ability in the Premier League a little over four years ago, and despite Villa getting relegated, Jordan Veretout stood out. It showed just how well he adapted to the Premier League and for Arsenal, the move makes a lot of sense.

The Gunners are set to lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, with the Welshman signing for the Italian giants on a Bosman. That would leave them short in the midfield department, with just three first-team stars at their disposal.

Moreover, replicating Ramsey’s quality and ability in the final third and the defensive half would be difficult. That is something the club cannot afford and hence, Jordan Veretout is the perfect man to bring in.

As mentioned above, the 26-year-old is very versatile and can play anywhere in the midfield. This adds to his value and combined with his defensive work rate, it makes him a great replacement.

With the Gunners considering a £25million bid, if they manage to close the deal for that price, it will allow the club to splurge on other areas.

Conclusion

Arsenal’s biggest job this summer will be replacing Aaron Ramsey, with defensive reinforcements coming a close second. Unai Emery has done very well with the team he has at his disposal but has taken them as far as he can.

The former PSG boss needs new additions on board and it has to be players in the right area, which is exactly what Jordan Veretout is.
