Arsenal rekindling interest in signing this piercing 27-year-old winger would be a smart decision by Emery – Agreed?

Arsenal Opinion: Why the Gunners should make a move for Emil Forsberg?

Back in May 2018, the Daily Mirror claimed Arsenal were interested in signing RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg. However, a move didn’t materialise and the Swede has stayed with Leipzig.

Emil Forsberg, 27, moved to Leipzig from Malmo in January 2015, climbing his way from Germany’s second tier to the Bundesliga. He has been a star at Leipzig for the recent few years now and is one of the most exciting players in Germany.

However, he endured an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign at the Red Bull Arena, yet he managed four goals and eight assists in 20 Bundesliga appearances.

The 27-year-old has a contract with Leipzig until 2022 but that shouldn’t deter Arsenal and they must reignite their interest in the Swedish winger this summer.

Forsberg would add depth to Liverpool flanks.

The Gunners boss Unai Emery has endured a disappointing summer so far, with his modest transfer budget proving difficult to manage.

He is looking to strengthen several areas of his squad this summer following a disappointing campaign in the Premier League last term that saw the North London stalwarts miss out on a place in the Champions League.

The Spanish tactician has seen options in the forward department becoming thin after making the decision to allow the injury-prone Danny Welbeck to leave the club on a free transfer in June.

Emery will undoubtedly need a wide man if Arsenal are to compete for a top-four place in the Premier League this season and avoid missing out on Champions League football for a fourth straight year.

None of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi lived up to the expectations at the Emirates Stadium last season. Emery needs to add some balance to his attack by signing a natural winger and Forsberg would fit the bill perfectly.

A left winger by trade, Forsberg is equally adept at playing on the other wing or through the middle as a no.10. He is a technically gifted player, well known for his dribbling skills, burst of acceleration and crossing abilities.

The Sweden international has the ability to create chances and score goals in equal measure, making him an exciting and impactful all-around presence in the final third.

With the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette forming a formidable partnership up front, the arrival of someone like Forsberg could potentially transform Arsenal into one of the most deadly attacking units in the Premier League.

Verdict

A somewhat quiet 2018/19 Bundesliga campaign could mean Forsberg’s stock isn’t at the peak, but the Gunners will have to do some convincing for the Swede to choose the Emirates without Champions League football next season.
