Arsenal Player Ratings vs Stoke City: A 5-0 Or 6-0 Scoreline Would Have Seemed Reasonable

Arsenal Player Ratings vs Stoke City

Arsenal moved up to second in the Premier League table by recording a 2-0 victory over Stoke City on Saturday. Goals from Theo Walcott and Giroud were enough to secure the win for the Gunners, it could have been much worse for Arsenal had it not been for the heroics of Jack Butland. Ultimately there was a lot to be positive about the performance, as Arsene Wenger’s team played very well and kept a clean sheet for the third successive match. This was a match in which a 5-0 or 6-0 scoreline would have seemed reasonable, but the three points Is what Arsenal needed ahead of a trip to Chelsea next week.

Arsenal

Petr Cech

Made a couple of decent saves from distance, is looking like the old Cech again. He was not overly troubled but dealt with everything that came his way and commanded his area well throughout. 7

Hector Bellerin

Got forward well down the right all afternoon and delivered a number of dangerous crosses into the box. The league’s best right-back was at his unstoppable best throughout against Stoke. 8

Gabriel

Was composed and solid at the back. He was strong and quick, passed it well from the back and didn’t get pushed around. 7

Laurent Koscielny

He is the leader at the back, marshalling the back four and keeps everyone focused. Almost scored a thunderbolt from 30 yards in the first half. he was excellent in the air too. 7

Nacho Monreal

One the most consistent performers in this Arsenal team. A typically solid and dependable display from the left-back.  He looked to push forward and help his team out when they were on the attack. 7

Francis Coquelin

His excellent sliding tackle set Arsenal away for Theo Walcott’s opener. He is the rock in the middle of the field and does a superb job of protecting the back four. 8

Aaron Ramsey

Put in a huge amount of effort for his team, but the final product was missing today. One would argue that he needs a goal to regain some lost confidence. 7

Santi Cazorla

One of the best performances by the Spaniard this season, was at his best in the opening 10 minutes. Looked dangerous in the final third, created many chances for his teammates and set up Giroud’s goal with a fine free kick. 8

Mesut Ozil

Played a wonderful through ball for Walcott’s opener, seems to be getting better with every passing game. Needs to work hard when the opposition has the ball. One or two instances he let his opponent get away from him.  7

Alexis Sanchez

Made a strong start to the match and had two great chances to score inside the opening eight minutes. His combination play with Ozil was impossible to defend against. 7.5

Theo Walcott

Scored the opener for Arsenal but missed three great chances in the opening 10 minutes. Needs to work on his finishing, to make his place permanent in the team. 7
