Arsenal offering their £75,000-a-week superstar a new deal is an absolute no-brainer and Emery has to do it

Arsenal opinion: Should Arsenal sell Laurent Koscielny?

According to a report from the Sun, Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny is unsure about his future at the club. The Frenchman is under contract at the Emirates until the summer of 2020 but his agent has revealed that he isn’t certain that he will remain at the club beyond the summer.

Arsenal’s hopes of a top-four finish were all but over after the draw against Brighton at the weekend but the Gunners still have a huge chance of making it into the Champions League by winning the Europa League this season.

The Gunners have a two-goal cushion against La Liga side Valencia ahead of the second-leg and if things go their way, they will face either Chelsea or Eintracht Frankfurt in the finals at Baku. One player whose performance will be of massive importance is skipper Laurent Koscielny.

The £75,000-a-week Frenchman suffered a terrible injury at this stage last season, which cost him a place in France’s World Cup-winning squad at Russia. Koscielny missed the rest of last season, as well as the first half of this season due to the same.

However, Koscielny returned to action in early December in an EFL Cup tie against Portsmouth and he has since been outstanding. The skipper has played 16 times in the Premier League since his return and he has arguably been their best defender.

Despite being 33 years old, Koscielny is still almost as quick as he was when he arrived in North London all those years ago. Arsenal have looked a lot more comfortable in games this season with their skipper at the back and losing him in the summer will be a humungous blow.

Koscielny has been a fan favourite at the Emirates and he has been through all the hardships along the way.

The 33-year-old has gone from being a relative unknown from the Ligue 1 to being one of the best central defenders in world football in his time here and Arsenal should allow him to retire at the Emirates.

Koscielny is probably one of the last players in the Arsenal squad who knows what it means to represent the badge and with Aaron Ramsey leaving the club in the summer, Arsenal cannot afford to lose Koscielny.

Conclusion

Laurent Koscielny is an Arsenal icon who deserves to stay at the club as long as he wants.

The skipper has been a real leader in the Gunners squad for a number of years now and his presence in the squad, even if he fails to play every game, will be of massive importance to Arsenal and their youngsters.
