Arsenal Opinion: Why Arsenal need to make a move for Moussa Dembele

Despite their miserable defensive showcase this season, Arsenal have been phenomenally great going forward. They have the best shot conversion of any Premier League side despite the fact that Arsenal sit 11th for total shots attempted.

Add that to the fact that they conceded the second most number of shots on target, and the end of season stats do not make for good reading. That has to change in the future and the transfer window is open, it allows the club have a chance to do exactly that.

But their biggest issue will be keeping players at the club. With their super-strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette being linked with moves away (Football London), it will be a headache for Unai Emery till the transfer window ends but replacing them shouldn’t be too hard.

Simply because given their form this season both strikers would net Arsenal a healthy amount in transfer fees and that does allow the club to splurge on other areas. However, while that isn’t a reason to let two of their best players go, it’s something to consider.

And it seems that it’s something that Arsenal have already started preparing for, with Football London reporting that they’ve entered the race for Moussa Dembele. The report further adds that Manchester United are also in the race but if Arsenal lose even one striker between Lacazette and Aubameyang, then it’s a race they have to win.

While the 22-year-old only joined Olympique Lyon last summer, he’s made a rather incredible impact since then. Dembele finished the season with 22 goals in all competitions, including 13 in the Ligue 1, 3 in the Champions League and added 6 assists to that tally.

It’s an instant impact after his move from Celtic, with the Frenchman finishing his career in Scotland with 94 appearances and a modest 51 goals. That shows his consistency in front of goal and while the Frenchman would take some time to adapt to the Premier League, there is little doubt that he would be a success.

The Scottish Premiership is a very physical league and Dembele honed his skills there before moving on to a brighter future. That experience and consistency he showed in Scotland will help him if a  move to the Premier League ever beckons.

Add that to his pace, aerial ability and spatial awareness and it makes him a great option for Arsenal.

Conclusion

Moussa Dembele has shown a propensity to consistently score goals and for any team in the world that is something they need. However, for the Gunners, if they lose even one of their strikers before the close of the summer window, it’s a move they have to make to survive.
