Arsenal Legends Blasts Club’s Tranfer Policy

Even though Arsenal are having a good transfer window so far with top players like Alexis Sanchez , Mathieu Debuchy, Callum Chambers and David Ospina have joined the team already. But Arsenal legends are still not happy. Thomas Vermaelen leaving to Barcelona is the main reason for this.

Tony Adams said in his recent interview,

“I’m slightly saddened by the news Vermaelen’s leaving. I personally believe that you need three central defenders to win the championship.

“It seems kind of too easy to say, ‘I’m not playing – off I go’.

“Defensively, I think it’s going to be a huge loss. I put them down as third before Thomas went. Thomas goes, you’re struggling to get in the top four.”

“I don’t think there are those characters in midfield and defence that could go away from home and keep clean sheets, at Manchester City, at Liverpool, at Chelsea – grind out a 0-0. For me, the team that wins the league does that.

“In the past, there were financial problems with the building of the new stadium. But the business model’s fantastic. Year in, year out, they’re making profit now.

“And if they want to compete against Real Madrid or Barcelona or Bayern Munich now, and Man Uniteds and Chelseas, you’ve got to keep hold of your better players.”

Adams is not  the only Arsenal legend to be unhappy with Vermaelen tranfer.

Former striker Ian Wright  also showed his disappointment,

He said,

“I said I was very disappointed, I tweeted to Thomas, saying it’s a pity he didn’t stay and fight it out here because he’s a great player when he’s fit and he’s a player Arsenal could do with.

“I’m not saying Arsenal are going to go onto win CL but there is a change and I’d have liked to have seen a player of that calibre just stay and fight it out.

“Arsenal need players like that so we can get stronger every year and challenge, when it comes to February and March.”
