Arsenal Legend Picks Just Three Gunners in his Combined Arsenal-Manchester United XI

Former Arsenal winger Paul Merson has now chosen his best combined eleven prior to the clash against Manchester United, though the Gunners’ faithful might not be happy as he just named three players from the north London side. The two Premier League giants collide on Sunday, in one of the fiercest rivals in the Premier League at the Emirates.

The Sky Sports pundit himself spent 12 years with the club as a player, yet barely found room for just Laurent Koscielny, Francis Coquelin and Alexis Sanchez in his preferred side. The eight stars from United include David de Gea in goal; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind alongside Koscielny in defence; Morgan Schneiderlin and Coquelin in holding midfield; Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Sanchez in attacking midfield, with Anthony Martial as the lone striker.

Explaining his choices leaving out several key members of Arsene Wenger’s side he said, “Would I have Mesut Ozil in there? I don’t think so. Aaron Ramsey has gone too long without a goal. Santi Cazorla is unlucky to miss out but his form has also tailed off a bit.”

Merson further said that he Coquelin, though he is not his “biggest fan”, yet “he’s so important to Arsenal” and talked about his fear of losing Koscielny for a long time, through injury.
