Arsenal demolished West Ham United last night and moved back in to contention for the all important 4th place and the Champions league qualifying place. The gunners remain struck at 6th place but have reduced the deficit on 4th placed Spurs to 4 just points.

Arsene Wenger asked for a shortened press conference following Arsenal’s 5-1 win over West Ham, as the manager suggested he had ‘work to do’ in the transfer market.

When quizzed on potential new signings Arsene ended his press conference with:

“No [I have nothing to tell you]. That is why I have to shorten the press conference – I have to do some work!”

Interesting. It does really seem Wenger wants to add 2 or 3 players before the window closes 8 days from now. Arsenal were in fine form against West Ham, but it’s consistency the Gunners need to find in order to secure a Champions League spot for the 15th season running under Arsene Wenger.

It was really a great night overall for the Arsenal faithful as they witnessed all of their 3 summer signings get in the score sheet. German International Podolski was the stand out performer yesterday who was in the middle of everything for the Gunners. Not only he scored a brilliant equaliser but also created a hattrick of asssists to help the Gunners cause. Giroud Scored a brace and Walcott and Cazorla each chipped in with a goal and an assist to their name.

Wenger was quick to hail the impressive German and admits he has been impressed with the forward’s performances so far. He said,

“He [Podolski] had an outstanding game tonight. He scored a very important goal. He has an unbelievable shot because the keeper had no chance. After he gave of course two great balls as well. What is new for us is that we scored on a corner! It was a bit unusual”

He had a very strong game at West Ham as well. Certainly today it was his most efficient game because I felt he took responsibility at the moment when we needed him. With a player of his experience you expect him to do that. I have plenty of candidates [to play through the centre] but I believe still this is his best position [on the left].

And it looks like Vermaelen may miss the game on Saturday with the knock he picked up in the first half. Wenger said:

“Vermaelen has an ankle problem. He got kicked and twisted a little bit. He is a doubt for Saturday but it is nothing major.”

Finally we leave you with Podolski’s fabulous left foot drive
