Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil has had a below par start to the season and has been under severe criticism from both the fans and the media. The German International was even linked with a move away from the Emirates, but has since then cleared the air and pledged his future with the Gunners.
However, the main topic that has been discussed globally is the position that Ozil has been deployed at currently. Ever since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez in the summer, it was presumed that the Chilean will take up the right wing in the absence of Theo Walcott while Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski will operate down the left flank, allowing the German to play centrally and take up the responsibility of creating goals. Although the exact opposite has been witnessed thanks to Arsene Wenger’s idea of playing in a new 4-1-4-1 formation where Ozil has been playing on the right side of the attacking four.
