Arsenal Considering A Move For £8.5m Premier League Defender After Drogba Massacre?

Ashley Williams to Arsenal?
Ashley Williams to Arsenal?

Arsenal are set to revive their interest in the Swansea City captain Ashley Williams. The 29 year old Wales International has been linked with the club from the start of the transfer window. Now it seems that the things will take a concrete shape this time.

Williams has been associated with the Wales club for quite some times now. He joined Swansea in 2007-08 season and since then has been one of the defensive pillars of the team. He represented Swansea on 231 occasions.

Arsenal’s defence has been a reason of headache for Wenger and now it seems that Thomas Vermaelen and Nacho Monreal could be ruled out for the start of the new season. To nullify their absence, Wenger is keen to go for Williams again. Initially, Swansea valued their caption at a £10m range which failed to attract Wenger. Now the deal will cost around £8.5m as Swansea have agreed to accept bids on that range.

Ashley Williams is also assumed to be elated with the deal as it would give him a chance to show his skills at the Champions League. The defender is now at the zenith of his form and it will be the ideal phase to expose himself in the coveted tournament.

In other news, Arsenal are believed to have wrapped up another player. This time, it is a 19-years old German footballer Matthais Ginter. If the sources are to be believed, the deal is going to cost £6.1m for the Gunners for this teenager. Ginter currently plays at German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg.

Quite surprisingly, Ginter also operates as a centre-defender but is equally adept at the defensive midfield position. He appeared 21 times for Freiburg last season and was considered as one of the promising player of the Bundesliga. So, it is quite clear why the experienced Frenchman has gone for the young talent. On the other side, having the guidance of Wenger in such a tender age must have tempted Ginter to register his name at the Emirates.

It is now up to the player to show his talents and accumulate accolades.
