Arsenal completing a summer move for this £35m Belgian star would be an absolute coup by Emery

Arsenal opinion – Gunners want to sign Thorgan Hazard – good move?

According to a report in Metro, Arsenal are preparing to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach winger Thorgan Hazard in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are keeping a close eye on the player, who is Eden Hazard’s younger brother, and manager Unai Emery is a huge admirer of his playing style (h/t Metro).

The 26-year-old is also on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, who want to replace Chelsea-bound Christian Pulisic. However, no agreements have been made, meaning the north London-based side can stoop in and offer a deal to the Belgian international (h/t Sun).

As per the report, Emery wants to improve Arsenal’s attacking options, ahead of next season. He had hoped that the arrival of Denis Suarez from Barcelona would be the solution, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case.

Here’s why the Gunners would be right to sign Thorgan Hazard, who is valued at around £35m, (h/t Metro) in the summer transfer window:

Arsenal need quality in the wide areas

Predominantly a left-winger, Hazard is capable of operating on the other side of the wing and also as a number 10 behind the striker.

With nine goals and 10 assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances this season, the Belgian has shown that he is prolific when it comes to creating chances from wide areas and scoring some of them.

On the other hand, Arsenal have two of the best strikers in the league – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, with one of the best creative playmakers in Mesut Ozil.

However, they lack real quality and width in wide areas. On paper, the Gunners only have Alex Iwobi as their only winger, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who plays on the wing at times, is an attacking midfielder by trade.

Conclusion

Hence, it is pretty clear that if Arsenal are to become a potent all-around unit up front, they require players of Thorgan Hazard’s calibre in wide areas. For that reason, it will make sense if they make a move for Eden’s brother in the summer.
