Why Arsenal should hand Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a new contract
According to a report from The Sun, Arsenal are considering handing a new deal to star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gunners want to reward the 30-year-old forward for his superb recent performances and will try to convince him that his long-term future lies at the Emirates.
The Gabon international has been brilliant since switching the Bundesliga for the Premier League back in January 2018, managing 43 goals in 67 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and winning the Premier League Golden Boot in his first full campaign.
The report adds the north London giants will give Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a major bonus if he fires them back into the Champions League.
Arsenal were widely praised for making some key signings during the summer transfer window, with Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz and Dani Ceballos all arriving at the Emirates. And they have started the new season strongly, winning their first two fixtures against Newcastle United and Burnley.
Aubameyang scored in the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Burnley on Saturday, adding to the strike that helped the side beat Newcastle on the opening day.
His goal on the opening day of the season took him to 33 goals in 50 Premier League matches making him the joint-fifth most prolific goalscorer after a half-century of games in the competition’s history. The 30-year-old is now already regarded as one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League.
The Gabonese not only has been a prolific goalscorer for Unai Emery’s side but also has struck a formidable partnership up front with Alexandre Lacazette. They have linked up brilliantly during their time together at the Emirates Stadium and are a joy to watch when on song.

In fact, the squad that now surrounds Aubameyang and Lacazette is arguably better and more structured than the squad available to Emery in his first season.
All in all, Aubameyang has all the tools at his disposal to breach the 30-goal mark and bring home his second consecutive Premier League Golden Boot.
Verdict
Although talk of a title challenge does feel premature after just two games, manager Unai Emery appears to have a squad capable of getting back into the top four this season.
Thus, it would be a big boost for Arsenal if they agree on a contract extension with Aubameyang, who is currently enjoying the best years of his career with the club.
