Soccer Souls takes a look at three things we learnt from the top flight football in England

United score from open Play

David Moyes saw his men finally score from an open play as United registered a 2-1 victory away from home against Sunderland. Craig Gardner scored the first goal of the match for the Black Cats before Adnan Januzaj’s double sealed three points for the English champions at the Stadium of Light.

The 18-year-old came through the middle and passed the ball to United fullback Patrice Evra with his left foot, who in returned crossed it to Januzaj to put the ball into the net with his right foot.

The second goal saw Januzaj smashed the ball past Sunderland keeper, who din’t have time to react. United’s 4-1 victory over Swansea in the season opener was the last time prior to the Sunderland game that the Red Devils scored from open play.

Everton’s unbeaten recorded was finally broken

Everton saw them lose their last league fixture 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the early game played on Saturday. On loan striker from Chelsea Romelu Lukaku gave the lead after the quarter hour mark for the Toffess, which was immediately cancelled by Alvaro Negredo’s goal.

However, City were not done yet as Sergio Aguero’s strike before the break, followed by Tim Howard’s own goal in the second half saw Roberto Martinez suffer his first defeat as Everton manager in the Premier League.

Everton’s latest result means that all the Premier League teams have now suffered a defeat from the start of the season.

Top Two North London clubs drop points.

Two North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropped points on Sunday. Arsene Wenger saw his side settle for a 1-1 draw against a spirited West Bromwich Albion while Spurs were hammered 3-0 by West Ham United in their own backyard.

The Gunners were trailing 1-0 in first half during the game against Steve Clarke’s side before Jack Wilshere’s deflected goal saw the Gunners equalise. Although they pressed for the winner, West Brom managed to defend with atmost perfection and at times looked to have scored another goal. In the end it was 1-1, a well earned point for both the teams. However, Andre Villas-Boas’ side could not even come close to a draw as an impressive second half performance from the Hammers saw Spurs suffer a 3-0 defeat.
