Arsenal – 3 Reasons Why Mesut Ozil Is Not A Flop Signing As Media Claims

Now its been more than one season and the criticisms have reached the peak. People all over the world feel that Mesut Ozil is under-performing and since his move from Real Madrid a season ago, he has not justified the astronomical £42.5 million spent on him. So much has been the discussion around him that even former Germany legend Michael Ballack has recently stated that  Ozil made a big mistake signing for Arsenal.

The German media has been very unkind to Ozil and the press believes that his stature as a footballer has taken a steep fall. Some of the football pundits blames Wenger for this while the others have not spared Ozil for this. But whatever the situation may be, the supporters of the club have become impatient with him and many already consider him a flop. But here at SoccerSouls we urge the fans to show their trust on the German star for a bit more and give him the opportunity to prove himself. And it is not like we feel he deserves another chance without a reason, rather we state forward three reasons why the fans of the club should back him.

1. Overall transfer failure

People may be blaming Mesut Ozil for being a mediocre player, but it is also true that he is operating in a team which has many lapses if the overall squad is considered. There is no proper defensive midfielder in the team and that is putting more burden on the existing midfielders, Ozil being one of them. Ozil was never known to track back and help the team in the defence, but he is being compelled to do so in the current scenario. There are defensive lapses and many of the teams are exploiting that, thus never allowing Ozil to dominate. Wenger must check these and then only he can get the best out of Ozil.

2. Lack of world class players

Ozil thrived best in Real Madrid where he had players like Ronaldo, Modric, Alonso, Benzema as teammates. It is a fact that Ozil functions a lot better in a well oiled machine and not in a team where he has to take the lead. Apart from a few players, Arsenal truly lack world class players with Danny Welbeck being the striker upfront at the moment. This is taking a toll in Ozil’s performance and he is not being able to give his best.
