Argentine Defender Does A Complete U-turn In Favor Of Liverpool, Player To Move Soon

Since when did Liverpool started competing with Mexican side Monterrey? Well ever since both the clubs got interested in signing Gabriel Mercado from River Plate.

The Argentine club had an agreement with Monterrey regarding the transfer of the player but Mercado has had a change of heart and has done a complete U-turn. Now, since the player has rejected a move to Monterrey, Liverpool are the favorite to sign the Argentina defender from River Plate.

A Monterrey statement read: “Mr. Gabriel Mercado broke, unilaterally, the agreement that existed between the player himself and our club.

“Although the agreement and the negotiations were handled in the time required by the player and his representative, the arrangements have been dissolved.”

Jurgen Klopp was spotted at an Argentina match earlier last month and while many thought the German manager was watching Gonzalo Higuain, now it is believed that Klopp was, in fact, watching Gabriel Mercado. With Jurgen Klopp interested the Argentine media claims that a move to Liverpool is now most likely for the player. One of the media, Clarin, stated that the reason for Mercado’s U-turn is because of the interest from Liverpool that he received.
