“Appalling”, “Bottling it”: Some Leeds fans furious after incredible 3-3 draw vs Cardiff + Match report

Leeds United vs Cardiff City report: Leeds United match report

Leeds United threw away a three-goal lead as they were held to a 3-3 draw against Cardiff City at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites had taken a firm grip on the game when Helder Costa and Patrick Bamford scored within the first eight minutes. They looked to be cruising when Bamford converted a penalty that he had won seven minutes into the second half.

But Lee Tomlin pulled one back and then Sean Morrison pulled another. Morrison’s straight red card with four minutes left looked to have ended things, but Robert Glatzel had other ideas when he equalised in the 88th minute to stun the home crowd.

Leeds were dominant and appeared set to romp to a comfortable victory as chances came thick and fast in front of the Cardiff goal. When Bamford added a third for Leeds from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute, it looked game, set and match.

Yet, Cardiff, so dull and flat in the first half, gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Tomlin profited on a Kiko Casilla mistake by scoring on the hour mark. Leeds fans certainly felt some jitters when Morrison headed in a second in the 82nd minute. Two minutes later, however, Morrison was sent off for a reckless lunge on substitute Eddie Nketiah.

But the Bluebirds’ grit, determination and fight bore fruit in the 88th minute when substitute Glatzel sneaked home an equaliser. Remarkably in added time, Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge denied Nketiah a late winner as an incredible game somehow ended all square.
