Aston Villa Opinion – Why Aston Villa should sign Taiwo Awoniyi
According to a report in Birmingham Mail (h/t La Derniere
As per the local report, other European clubs – namely AC Milan, Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb and RC Lens were also present to watch the game between Mouscron and Cercle Brugge in the Belgian league.
The 21-year-old scored a goal and assisted another to take his tally to four goals and two assists in five outings.
Here’s why Aston Villa should sign him in the summer window:
Villa’s requirement of more firepower up front
Aston Villa have had an underwhelming season so far, despite the mini-resurgence in between under Dean Smith. They are currently 10th in the table, nine points away from the playoff spots, and on current form, are unlikely to have any chance to get promoted to the Premier League.
Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for them, having done so 56 times in 33 league games so far. However, their top-scorer is Tammy Abraham, who is on loan from Chelsea.
Hence, there are no guarantees whether the Englishman will stay at Villa Park beyond the summer or not. He could leave if the team doesn’t get promoted.
Signing another striker wouldn’t be a bad idea, even if Abraham stays put at the club. And Taiwo Awoniyi is more than a good option for them.
The Nigerian is a physically strong centre-forward who has good pace to make runs in behind, can dribble past defenders in tight spaces and is pretty good at having a pop at goal at every given opportunity.
If his recent form is any evidence, the 21-year-old Liverpool man is a very handy striker who can play on the right wing, when required.
All in all, Aston Villa will get a good player who can add firepower to their front-line and make them a better prospect going forward, regardless of the future of Abraham.

Conclusion
Dean Smith’s men have to play out of their skins from now till the end of the season to get promoted to the Premier League.
If that doesn’t happen, then they have to rebuild the squad in the summer and make improvements in certain areas to compete for the Championship title next season. Signing Awoniyi would be a first step in the right direction.
