Answer to unlocking defences? – Here’s why Wolves should have signed this searing 22-year-old ace

Why Wolves should have signed Harry Wilson from Liverpool in summer

In July, a report from the Sun had claimed that Wolves were interested in signing Liverpool winger Harry Wilson during the summer transfer window.

However, a move didn’t materialise and the player instead joined Bournemouth on a season-long loan.

Wolves have had a disappointing start to the 2019/20 campaign, bagging just three points in the first four games of the season.

Nuno Espirito Santo has so far kept faith with the players who helped his side to a seventh-place finish in 2018/19. They are without a win in the league and Nuno quickly needs to find a solution before the pressure starts mounting on him.

The Midlands outfit have struggled to score goals this season, with Nuno’s team heavily dependent on Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota. Jimenez has hit the ground running in the new campaign, scoring two goals in four league games.

The Mexican has been the driving force behind Wolves’ qualification to the Europa League group-stage, grabbing six goals in as many games.

As Nuno’s men continue to find it difficult to unlock defences, Harry Wilson, meanwhile, has quickly made an impact at Bournemouth.

Harry Wilson, 22, impressed at Derby County last season in the Championship, scoring 18 goals from 49 appearances but couldn’t help the Rams achieve promotion to the Premier League.

He looks destined for bigger things and showed the last term that he is ready for the step up. And the Welshman has not taken much time to settle at Bournemouth, showing consistency in his performances when he has been on the pitch.

The 22-year-old has already scored twice this term; he netted from outside the box in the 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and even though he only came on as a first-half substitute during the Cherries’ home defeat to champions Manchester City, he was their star performer.

The omens look good for Wilson at the Vitality Stadium, clearly showing why he could have been the perfect signing for Wolves. The Wales international would have added creativity, width and flair to the Wolves’ attack in the final third, whilst giving Nuno with the tactical flexibility.

Verdict

It’s tough for Wolves to have another season like the last one as they will be playing in the Europa League this time around. Not signing Wilson could prove to become a factor in being the difference between Champions League football and having none.
