Newcastle United Opinion – Newcastle should re-ignite their interest in Kemar Roofe

According to a report in Sun Football, Newcastle United were interested in signing Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe during the January transfer window to save their season.

However, the Peacocks had no intention of selling their prized asset and kept hold of him for at least the rest of this season. (Sun) Roofe has been in sensational form this season, scoring 14 goals and supplying two assists in 26 league appearances.

His goals up front has led Marcelo Bielsa’s men into a good position, from where they can target automatic promotion to the Premier League by the end of this season.

Kemar Roofe

Even though he is currently sidelined with a knee injury in the game against Swansea City last week and may be out for a few weeks, the 26-year-old will come back strong and play a vital part in Leeds’ campaign. (BBC)

Here’s why Newcastle should re-ignite their interest in the Englishman in few months time and test the Peacocks’ resolve:

Roofe could work wonders for the Magpies

Newcastle have done well after a disastrous start to the season and find themselves in a slightly better position compared to what everyone expected them to be.

Rafa Benitez’s men are 16th in the table, just a point ahead of the danger zone, but the positive thing for them is that they have played most top-six teams home and away.

That means games against direct rivals will be on the menu for the next three months. 10 of the last 12 remaining matches are against teams who are currently outside of the top-eight. Only Arsenal (away) and Liverpool (home) are the real tough ones left.

However, for teams that are fighting for survival, every game is difficult. Scoring goals has been the problem for Benitez’s men, having netted just 22 in 26 games so far.

Kemar Roofe

Striker Salomon Rondon has done well since he began starting games up front. The on loan West Brom player has scored six and supplied three assists in 20 appearances, which is decent for someone playing in a creative-hamstrung team.

While Newcastle should assert on keeping the Venezuelan beyond the summer, getting Kemar Roofe would be ideal.

With the arrival of Miguel Almiron, the Magpies are expected to be better in the creative department, and it will help Benitez play his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.

If the club manages to keep hold of Rondon and sign Roofe before next season, then the possibility of Almiron on the left wing, Roofe as a support striker and Rondon up front would be tasty combination.

Conclusion

Looking at the above-mentioned facts/nuances, we can only expect better things to happen for Newcastle if they sign the Leeds United forward.
