Another Game, Another Draw: The Best And The Worst Rated Manchester United Players vs Burnley

The Red Devils were back to square one in the Premier League despite their midweek derby win against Manchester City. Burnley held Jose Mourinho’s men to a draw at the Old Trafford, and that took their Premier League winless run to 4 games having last seen victory against Leicester City in September.

The Red Devils have now only won 1 out of their last 7 league games, and the Burnley clash highlighted their many problems once again. In a game that saw Jose Mourinho sent off from the technical area at halftime break, here is a breakdown of how United players performed.

De Gea

Probably his most inactive game of the season as the visitors recorded only a tame shot on target all game.

Rating : 3/5

Darmian

Replaced the injured Valencia at right-back for his first Premier League appearance of the season. Wasn’t a bad season debut for him as he attacked a lot. He got fouled a couple of times and had a penalty appeal waved away by Clattenburg.

Rating : 3/5

Blind

Played in some great set pieces and also attempted a chance himself. Had nothing to do defensively and joined in the search for a late winner. Played a pass to Rooney from a corner-flag side from the last free kick of the game, only for the skipper to squander what could have been a fine assist.

Rating : 3/5

Rojo

Played in place of Smalling and had to also attack all day as Burnley played with 10 men behind the ball for a large period of the game. Attempted 2 shots from distance that flew well beyond the cross bar in either half when he could have chosen to play a cross in.

Rating : 3/5

Shaw

Looked to have regained full fitness following his recent recovery and lack of game time. Put his speed to display in the 2nd half as he closed down on Gray who had dashed towards DeGea from midfield and might have been through on goal without Shaw’s disturbance.

Rating : 4/5

Ander Herrera protests to referee Mark Clattenburg after his red card

Herrera

Was Manchester United’s engine room in the middle of the park until he committed a 2nd bookable offence which got him sent out, and the deficit further jeopardized the host’s chances of getting all 3 points.

Rating : 2/5

Pogba

Kept it simple despite completing most of his take-ons. Supplied Zlatan with more than 2 great chances, only for the Swedish giant to waste them all. Attempted to score one from his trademark long-range efforts, but it didn’t quite work out.

Rating : 3/5

Lingard

Had a finely-placed header saved by Heaton as the only impressive thing he did all day. Would definitely return to the bench once Mkhitaryan gets into action.

Rating : 2/5

Mata

As usual, the Red Devils’ best man upfront was in his elements but got unlucky to see the pole deny him of a winner earlier on after the restart. Heaton added the Spaniard to the list of those he frustrated with his saves. Was replaced with Fellaini with about 15 minutes to go.

Rating : 4/5

Rashford

Tireless as usual, and combined with Zlatan a couple of time. Was missing on a few occasions but did perform generally well, and he has no blame for the result.

Rating : 3/5

Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a string of chances against Burnley

Ibrahimovic

It’s been 6 straight league games without a goal for the former PSG striking stalwart. Had a strike hit the bar, but was otherwise wasteful as he either played effortless shots straight at Heaton, or wasted glaring chances the Zlatan we used to know would have scored. Definitely to blame for the loss-like draw.

Rating : 1/5

SUBSTITUTES

Rooney

Could have redeemed himself and become fans’ favourite for a minute if he had converted a great chance in the box after Blind’s cross. However, he ran around the pitch to help build up play as the search for goal went on.

Fellaini

Thrown in to play in Herrera’s position following the Spaniard’s dismissal.

Depay

Thrown in with few minutes to go, but hardly saw the ball.
