Comparing Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski

Chelsea are reportedly interested in an audacious summer swoop for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski. Considering how powerful the player is, it comes as no surprise that he has quite a few big clubs chasing his signature and whether or not the Blues can actually land him remains to be seen. However, Chelsea have struggled to fill the void left behind by Diego Costa, and so a move for Lewandowski seems like a much-needed one.

Now, there is no doubt that they will have to shell out quite some money to acquire Lewandowski’s signature. He is deservedly regarded as one of the top talents across the continent and while it also depends on Bayern’s willingness to sell him, this is a definitely a move that could benefit Chelsea.

But one must remember that they currently have Alvaro Morata in hand, who has blown hot and cold throughout the season so far. His lacklustre displays have frustrated the fans and if Chelsea are to harbour any serious title hopes next season, they will need a new player in his place.

But is Lewandowski the right choice? Let’s take a look at their stats.

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata vs Robert Lewandowski

In 34 appearances across competitions for Chelsea this season, Morata has scored 12 goals and provided 5 assists. He averages 3 shots per game and has a modest pass success rate of 73.2%. He completes about 1.1 key passes and 1.2 dribbles, along with 0.8 long balls per game. In addition to that, Morata has created about 29 chances for Chelsea in 22 Premier League appearances so far.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, has also featured 34 times for Bayern in all competitions so far, during the course of which he has scored 29 goals and provided 2 assists. He averages a whopping 4.6 shots per game and his pass success rate stands at 78.6%. On an average, he completes about 1 key pass, 0.6 dribbles and 0.5 long balls per game. Furthermore, Lewandowski has created about 19 chances in 23 Bundesliga appearances this term.

Verdict

As one can see, Lewandowski has outclassed Morata in almost every aspect of the game. However, unlike the former Real Madrid man, the £72m-rated Lewandowski is not as generous when it comes to setting up scoring opportunities for his teammates.

That said, there is no doubt that he will prove to be a massive upgrade when compared to Morata. Chelsea need a player like Lewa – somebody who can go out there and score goals on any given day. Hence, if possible, the Blues must do everything they can to land Lewandowski this summer.
