Alli Out, Son To Start – Predicted 3-4-3 Tottenham Line-up To Face APOEL Nicosia In Champions League

Predicted Tottenham Line-up To Face APOEL Nicosia In Champions League

Tottenham seem to have lost the plot in the last few games as they have fallen down to 6th place in the Premier League points table. They were held by Watford at the weekend and will hope to revive some lost form, when they welcome Apoel Nicosia to Wembley, in the 6th game of the group stage of the Champions League. Spurs have already qualified for the next round and a victory in this clash will cement their place at the top of the CL group table.

It is a game which they are expected to win and Pochettino might want to rest a few players but with most of his players out of form, they might as well be given a chance to prove themselves.

Team News

Toby Alderweireld and Victor Wanyama remain the only injury absentees for Tottenham in this clash. Erik Lamela is fit but will not be able to feature in Champions League as he has not been registered for the competition yet. Davinson Sanchez saw red against Watford but will be available for this game.

Formation: 3-4-3

Manager: Mauricio Pochettino

GK – Hugo Lloris

The French international is the first choice for Pochettino in goal, even in Europe, and should retain his place.

CB – Eric Dier

The English international has been used as a part of the backline regularly this season, to good effect, and should start on the right-hand side of the defence.

CB – Davinson Sanchez

Though suspended in England, Sanchez, who saw red against Watford, is available for this European game and should start at the heart of the backline.

Davinson Sanchez

CB – Jan Vertonghen

In the absence of Alderweireld, Vertonghen is now the senior centre-back and needs to marshal his line in this game.

RWB – Serge Aurier

The former PSG man has been preferred in the European games and he should keep his place in the side as a wing-back on the right flank.

CM – Harry Winks

The youngster has been unfazed at the highest level this season and Pochettino should see this game as an opportunity to give him another shot in the midfield.

CM – Moussa Sissoko

Giving Mousa Dembele some rest should be Sissoko, who has been decent, playing in a midfield role this season.

LWB – Ben Davies

The feud with the club is costing Danny Rose a place in the side as he is expected to be dropped in favour of Davies.

Christian Eriksen (left)

RW – Christian Eriksen

Having lost some form in the last few games, Eriksen will take this game against Nicosia as an opportunity to improve his confidence in front of goal.

LW – Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min is good enough to start regularly for Tottenham but is receiving lesser game time because of Alli’s immense quality. Son should start this game ahead of Dele Alli.

ST – Harry Kane

Though this game is expected to be easy, Spurs need their talisman Harry Kane, to make sure that they bag all three points.

Here is how Tottenham might line up:

(Editor’s Note: The previous title for the article included Lamela’s name as a starter but since he has not been registered by Tottenham for the Champions League tournament, we have made the necessary change to the title)
