Alexis Sanchez as expected received a hero’s welcome when he first stepped on the Emirates as a substitute against Benfica on Saturday. The Chilean who signed from Barcelona is the club’s second highest transfer after Mesut Ozil and it was reported that he chose to sign for Arsenal after rejecting offers from Liverpool and Juventus, which has subsequently excited the Arsenal fans.
Following the Emirates cup, the forward was quizzed about his decision to sign for Arsenal and asked whether Arsene Wenger played a role in his decision to which Sanchez replied,
“I was told that he is a manager you can learn a lot with. He wants to achieve great things in football and that helped me make the decision to sign for Arsenal.”
“Arsene Wenger’s style of play is a little bit like that of the Chilean national team. Therefore I am used to it.”
“Arsenal plays very well, they play good football and that fits with my style. That’s why I came here.”
Having played for Barcelona in a similar style to that of Arsenal, Sanchez would have little trouble in settling down at the Emirates. It is interesting to see that he believes Wenger will improve his game more, which is always a good sign for the club.
