Aguero and Mahrez to start – Strongest 4-3-3 Man City XI to face Huddersfield Town

Predicted Manchester City line-up to face Huddersfield Town

Premier League champions Manchester City began their title defence with a comfortable 2-0 win at Arsenal. It looks like Pep Guardiola has geared his players for another season of romping past opponents with ease. Even though they have a few players injured, the squad gives an ominous reading for any opponent, let alone a struggling Huddersfield.

Playing at the Etihad, the crowd will be up for it as this will be their first game after a record-breaking league season last time around. Huddersfield will provide a challenge by defending deep, hoping to frustrate their luxuriant opponents.

Team News

Kevin de Bruyne suffered a knee injury in training, which might keep him out for more than two months. David Silva hasn’t had much game time, so he would still be out of the squad for this weekend. It looks like Guardiola will field the same team which started against Arsenal.

Probable Manchester City XI

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Ederson (GK)

Ederson is just a fantastic keeper and should continue to be the number one this season barring any injuries. He is Guardiola’s vital cog while playing out from the back.

Kyle Walker

Kyle Walker (RB)

Walker looks fit and ready to have a fabulous season, just after a memorable adventure with England at the World Cup. He epitomised his fitness by running up and down the pitch against Arsenal, causing them problems.

John Stones (CB)

Stones has looked solid thus far and good in playing out from the back. It should be enough to keep Nicolas Otamendi out of the line-up.

Aymeric Laporte (CB)

Laporte, just like Stones, hasn’t put a foot wrong in the games they have played together. He will, for certain, start on Sunday.

Benjamin Mendy (LB)

One of the positives for City is that Mendy is back fit, which solves their first-choice left-back problem. The Frenchman showed in the previous game what City fans missed last year.

Fernandinho (CDM)

The Brazilian did his job diligently, shielding the back-four and winning second balls. Expect him to keep doing what he does best.

Bernardo Silva (LCM)

The Portuguese has looked at home whenever he has played the No.8 role. Now, with de Bruyne out for long-term and Silva not in the scene right now, he will continue playing there.

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan (RCM)

In the absence of two first-choice central midfielders, Gundogan must step up to show his talent and also make that No.8 position his own.

Raheem Sterling (LW)

Sterling purred from the left-wing position despite not playing a single pre-season game due to World Cup commitments. He looks sharp and focused on the targets he is aiming to achieve this season.

Riyad Mahrez (RW)

Mahrez made his debut last week and was comfortable in playing that wide role, cutting in to provide for space Walker on the outside.

Sergio Aguero (ST)

Aguero missed a great chance against Arsenal but he is lethal enough to play again and score this week. Gabriel Jesus would be eager to get his chance too, however, Aguero might start the first few league games.
