‘Agent Grayson strikes again!’ – Leeds United Fans React To Comfortable 2-0 Victory Over Sunderland + Player Ratings

Full Time: Sunderland 0-2 Leeds United

Leeds United broke their recent run of draws, when they downed Simon Grayson’s Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, on Saturday evening.

The Whites took the lead halfway through the first period, via a clinical finish from summer arrival Samu Saiz. The Spaniard was involved in the second goal for Leeds in the 76th minute, as it was his powerful cross that substitute Stuart Dallas headed into the net to make it 2-0.

The result meant Leeds moved into the fifth position in the EFL Championship table, with 8 points after four rounds of fixtures. Here’s how the Leeds players fared on the evening.

Leeds United Player Ratings

Felix Wiedwald – 7/10

Didn’t have a whole lot to do, but was up to the task when it was needed, his save off Lee Cattermole’s attempt catching the eye.

Luke Ayling – 8/10

Leeds’ Mr. Consistent, Ayling put in another classy display down the right-hand side for the club. Did not allow Aiden McGeady to get into the game at all.

Pontus Jansson – 9/10

A vintage ‘Jansson’ performance was put on at the Stadium of Light, as the big Swede won everything that came his way with great ease.

Liam Cooper – 8/10

Despite all the criticism that comes his way, the centre-half has started the season very strongly and continued in a similar fashion on Saturday.

Vurnon Anita – 7/10

Apart from some brief moments of pressure, the former Newcastle United man looked quite comfortable at left-back.

Eunan O’Kane – 8/10

Always available to receive a pass, kept the Whites ticking with his pinpoint distribution. Hasn’t put a foot wrong so far this season.

Kalvin Phillips – 8.5/10

A much-improved performance after a disappointing game last time around. Got stuck into the Sunderland midfielders, harrying them and pressing them aggressively. Distribution too was top-notch.

Ezgjan Alioski – 8/10

Gave Sunderland’s left-back Brendan Galloway a torrid time throughout the game. Involved in both the goals. Arguably his best performance for the club.

Samu Saiz – 9/10

Was the difference maker in the attacking third for Leeds. Took his goal with a splendid finish, before picking out Dallas with a fine cross. Man of the Match.

Pablo Hernandez – NA

Taken off early into the first-half due to a hip injury.

Caleb Ekuban – 7/10

Sharp movement, very good link-up play. Put the defenders under pressure and created spaces for his teammates to run into. Unfortunate to be replaced due to an injury.

Substitutes

Kemar Roofe – 6/10

Came on for the injured Hernandez in the 25th minute. Worked hard and ran at the Sunderland defence.

Stuart Dallas – 7.5/10

Replaced the injured Ekuban a little after the hour mark. Put the game to bed with a strong headed goal.

Mateusz Klich – NA

Came on to replace Saiz with less than 10 minutes on the clock.
