Adidas want Manchester United to agree deal with Real Madrid for Ronaldo

Manchester United’s shirt sponsors Chevrolet are reportedly encouraging the United hierarchy in making a move for Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo.

As quoted by the Spanish news outlet Diario Gol, Manchester United’s prodigal son – Cristiano Ronaldo – could very well return to the Theatre of Dreams over the summer. The Portuguese left United back in 2009 for a then world-record £80 million fee. A potential return, however, has always been touted since then but nothing noteworthy has ever happened up until now.

There are high chances that Real might look to bring another ‘Galactico’ force over the summer, given that they haven’t spent much over the past couple of years. In addition to that, reports have unearthed the former Barcelona man Neymar is being touted as a potential target and this might force Ronaldo in making a move away from Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portuguese’s current Madrid contract runs until 2021 and although he has shown no real desire of leaving Madrid, the allegations of tax fraud over the years have literally gone over his head. Ronaldo might not have any issues regarding his playing time at Madrid, but his off the field complications have only fueled his exit rumours. And these two (Neymar’s arrival as his heir and tax issues) traits have been troubling the Portuguese of late, and this could seek him in making an exit from the Bernabeu this summer.

Ronaldo moving to Manchester United for the second time in his career won’t only benefit the Devils, but would also help United’s shirt sponsors, Chevrolet. The American manufacturers pay United around £53m per season and their hierarchy is of the belief that this move could well turn out to be a marketing masterstroke. Also, United’s kit manufacturers Adidas are up for the deal as well.

The 33-year-old is personally contracted with Nike, but Real’s jersey are manufactured by the Germans. Hence, Adidas do not really have any issues with him changing the alliances. The only thing they want is the fact that Ronaldo should continue playing for an Adidas-backed team.

But as things stand for United manager Jose Mourinho, he was quipped over Ronaldo making an Old Trafford return, but the Portuguese brushed all claims aside by simply saying,

“I should be the last one to add some fuel to the fire,” he said in January.

“Madrid is on fire, the results are not good and it is a club where I worked three years. I care about the club and I don’t want to add fire.

“To put some water on the fire I would say Cristiano is the kind of player every manager wants, every club wants.

“But only one manager can have and only one club can have – Zidane and Real Madrid, that’s my feeling.”
