Leicester City vs Aston Villa report: Leicester City match report

Leicester City set a club record of 8 successive top-flight wins after a brace from Jamie Vardy helped them to an impressive 4-1 Premier League victory at Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Foxes were dominant in the first half but it was the home side who created the best early chance. Dennis Praet failed to track Matt Targett’s run from deep and when Grealish found the left-back, his low ball across goal was prodded against the bar by the fit-again Anwar El Ghazi. It proved a costly miss, as Leicester City took the lead 10 minutes later.

Premier League top-scorer Jamie Vardy rounded Tom Heaton and Ezri Konsa to net his 15th of the season. The task was made harder for Villa five minutes before the break when Kelechi Iheanacho turned home James Maddison’s low cross.

But with the final attack of the first half, skipper Jack Grealish gave the home fans hope as he thrashed home his fourth goal of the season.

Jonny Evans restored Leicester’s two-goal advantage with a looping header shortly after the break, rising above his marker to meet a Maddison corner. Maddison, who was a menace for Villa’s defence all afternoon, shaved the post with a shot from the edge of the area in the 67th minute as Brendan Rodgers’ side continued to dominate.

The Foxes made it even more painful for Villa when Vardy raced on to Maddison’s lofted pass, outpaced Targett and finished low into the corner past Heaton.
