A Super German Or A French Finisher? Who Should Arsenal Sign?

Arsenal Transfer Opinion

Sometimes having too many options is a problem, Arsenal have a large transfer kitty and if recent trends are to be followed, the club will sign another marquee player by the end of this transfer window. Arsenal have brought in Ozil and Sanchez in successive summers and it could be time for another big name to join the list of Gunners.

There are two players who seem to be at the top of Arsene Wenger’s list, while Sami Khedira was one of the players who could have joined the club but he chose to move to Italy rather than try it out in England. Arsene could be looking at another German, the player in question being Marco Reus while the other player in question for Arsene is a talismanic striker, Karim Benzema. Both players are wonderful in their style of play but which player should Arsenal go for?

French finishing or German grit?

The most startling thing about Karim Benzema has been the fact that every year he has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid. Although the Frenchman has been a thorough professional and has never hinted about a move away from Madrid, the rumours stay strong.

If Arsenal do move for the Frenchman, they would get one of the best strikers in the world and that is without a doubt something they need. Olivier Giroud is a great striker but he is no Benzema and the fact that Benzema has always been amongst the goals but has also been one of the highest assist providers for Real Madrid shows he is more than just a striker, he is a creator as well.

Reus on the other hand, might be a dynamic player who loves to run with the ball, at least more than Benzema. The super German is someone who can create something out of nothing but his injury record since the World Cup hasn’t been that great and to be honest, he needs to work a lot on his fitness before thinking of joining one of the toughest leagues in the world, in terms of physicality. There is no doubt that Reus would be a great asset for Arsenal but do they really need him?

The Gunners already possess great creative players in the likes of Ozil, Wilshere (to an extent) and Arteta, while they have great wingers and attackers in the likes of Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla and Sanchez. Bringing Reus in would just clutter the team and create an imbalance, unless they are willing to let go of some big names.

What Arsenal really need is a striker who can bang in 20-25 goals but play in their style as well. Benzema is not someone who is going to win you a lot of headers like Giroud does but he is certainly an upgrade on Giroud and if Arsenal can get both of them playing together, it could be a French finish for the Premier League crown this season.
