Scout Report – Leon Goretzka

Arsenal are one busy club this transfer window as they will have to work really hard to get some of the finest talents in Europe to join the club this summer. The manager is looking at some fine players to add to his squad and one player who has been linked with a £21m move to the Emirates is Leon Goretzka.

Speaking to the Sky Sports recently, the German midfielder revealed that he is not concerned about his club future and will only think about it after the end of the Confederations Cup, of which he is an important part of. Here is a scout report of the player, who is attracting interests from all over Europe.

Who Is Goretzka?

Born and brought up in Bochum, Germany, the 22-year old started his youth career in his hometown and moved to Schalke as a teenager in 2013. He took no time to make it to the first team, and already has 90 Bundesliga appearances to show for. He also has 7 appearances for the national side, and is growing into an established midfielder in Germany.

With 8 goals and 6 assists in 41 games in all competitions last season, he was in terrific form and is finding some confidence at the highest stage. Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, a central midfielder or on the wing, the versatile star is strong and tailor-made for the English game.

Style Of Play

He loves to hold the ball up in dangerous areas to allow his team to add numbers to the attack. Though not the greatest of playmakers, Goretzka is happy to sit back and dictate the game from a deeper role and his ability to put in crunching tackles makes him that much more effective.

He has decent vision and enough technical ability to pull off some incredible passes but he is a player who adds solidity and balance to the lineup – something that will make him an asset to most clubs in Europe.

The 22-year old still has to work on his attacking attributes as his crosses or through balls are not often up to the mark but at his age, he will learn, and will surely be one of the best players in his position, not just in Germany but also in Europe.

The Future?

Arsenal are reportedly one of the many clubs looking for his services. The likes of Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin have little future at the Emirates and Goretzka could be the right man for Arsenal to solve their midfield problems for the years to come.
