A Perfect Keita Alternative? Why Liverpool Should Sneak In And Sign This Tottenham Target

Why Liverpool Should Do What It Takes To Land Jean Michael Seri From Under The Noses Of Tottenham Hotspur

After three long years, Anfield outfit Liverpool will finally be back in the Champions League and Jurgen Klopp is doing his best to make sure that he has the right squad to compete for the trophy and many more in the upcoming campaign.

They have added a couple of attacking options to the squad but Liverpool are also looking to improve their midfield and their backline. But they have been unable to get deals done for their top transfer targets in Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for the respective roles.

Guinea international Keita is a prime target for Jurgen Klopp this summer and the Reds have seen a £66m bid for him rejected recently. Leipzig are adamant that the player is not for sale but the Reds may yet return with another bid in the upcoming days. However, with just over 15 days left for the season to start, Liverpool might want to start looking at alternatives for this role and one player they should target is Nice star Jean-Michael Seri.

A transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, Seri is not officially a target for the club yet and will only be a compromise if they miss out on Keita this summer. The 26-year old Ivory Coast international will cost considerably less than the Guinean and could be a superb addition to the squad at Anfield.

A central midfielder, who can play a defensive role when needed, Seri is a technically gifted footballer who has found some form in the last couple of seasons in Ligue1. He was one of the major reasons for Nice’s excellent finish last season and his figures of 7 goals and 9 assists in 34 appearances as the first choice midfielder for his side is a testament to it.

He may not be the kind of defensive midfielder Liverpool genuinely require but like Keita, he is a decent mix of aggression and defensive discipline, which is the way Klopp seems to like it. Arsenal have too many midfielders in their ranks to promise regular game time to Seri but Liverpool might face some competition from Spurs, who are also desperate for his services.

Pochettino is also looking for a midfielder who can take the mantle from Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele in the midfield and Seri is a decent option. But at Anfield, the 26-year old could very well walk into the first team and playing for a manager like Klopp will surely be more of a pull this summer.
