A no-brainer: Newcastle signing this Arsenal workhorse would make them a worthy PL side next season

Newcastle United opinion: Should the Magpies sign Danny Welbeck?

According to a report from the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United are battling hard to beat Everton for the signing of Danny Welbeck. The Arsenal forward will be out of contract in the summer and the report says that the Gunners are unlikely to hand him a new deal.

The Magpies have their own issues with manager Rafa Benitez, who is yet to commit his long-term future at the club. However, Newcastle United want to sign Welbeck, irrespective of whether Benitez stays or not, beyond the end of this season.

Newcastle will lose their star forward Salomon Rondon, once his loan deal expires, which would be a massive blow, especially after the kind of season that he has had at Tyneside this season. Ayoze Perez’s future is also in the air after the Spaniard expressed his desire to return to the La Liga.

Losing both of their star strikers would be an unimaginable blow for the Toons, who will potentially lose 25 goals between the two of them. A replacement for the duo is an obvious decision for the club to make and Danny Welbeck would be an ideal option.

Welbeck had a bright start to the season with the Gunners, scoring 5 goals in 5 starts.

However, a heart-breaking ankle injury during a Europa League game against Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates has seen him out of action since early November, which has dented his hopes of a new deal with the North London giants.

However, every team in the Premier League would want a relentless runner, who is versatile enough to play across the front three and Danny Welbeck is that guy. Newcastle United would be lucky to have him in their squad next season.

When fit, Danny Welbeck is a hugely valuable player to any squad. His energy and work rate high up in the pitch is infectious and his pace will allow him to cause serious damage to the opposition.

Welbeck is also vastly experienced, having played over 200 games in the Premier League under two of the greatest managers to ever grace the game – Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

Welbeck could form a lethal strike force with record signing Miguel Almiron up front for the Magpies and the duo’s pace on the counter-attack could be one of Newcastle’s greatest assets in the Premier League next season.
