A loan deal for this promising Chelsea starlet could play a big part in Aston Villa’s promotion push

Why Aston Villa must sign Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan from Chelsea

Aston Villa are said to be interested in signing Chelsea’s 20-year-old forward Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan (h/t Daily Mail).

Staying in the Premier League would be a tempting prospect for Abraham after playing for Swansea City last season. He managed 8 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions but couldn’t save Swansea from getting relegated.

The year before that, the 20-year-old sparkled in the Championship with Bristol City, scoring an eye-catching 23 goals in 41 league games to finish as the second highest scorer in the Championship behind Chris Wood.

Chelsea have a glut of strikers, with the likes of Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud capable of playing a big part in the upcoming season. There is also Michy Batshuayi, who is so talented. This could seriously hamper Abraham’s chances of featuring in the first-team.

At 20 years of age, Abraham needs to play regularly and looking at the current scheme of things at Stamford Bridge, it looks highly improbable to see him get opportunities ahead of Morata, Giroud and Batshuayi.

So a loan move looks to be the best thing for Abraham and he could do well by making a step down to the Championship to rediscover his lost mojo.

According to Daily MailAston Villa are interested in taking Abraham on a season-long loan and the striker must right away jump at the opportunity to play in the Championship. Due to his prolific displays at Bristol, Abraham certainly knows what it takes to play in the second tier of English football.

With major concerns hovering above his attacking options heading into the new season, Bruce must do everything in his powers to bring in Abraham from Chelsea.

There is a clear need for Abraham’s services in the Midlands and the 20-year-old would also get regular first-team opportunities to showcase his talent. The Chelsea youngster possesses the potential to become a top marksman and Steve Bruce could well be the man to bring it out.

If Villa manage to get hold of Abraham, Bruce would have enough firepower to challenge for promotion again, particularly after narrowly missing out on top-flight football this past season.
