A January raid to sign this £25million Tottenham target could work wonders for Everton – Agreed?

Why Signing Cenk Tosun Can Work Wonders For Everton

Everton are reportedly keen on wrapping up a move for Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun. The Toffees have targetted him for quite some time now and with the January window officially open, the Merseysiders are understood to be keen on ensuring the deal happens soon. Estimated to cost about £25million, Tosun has been linked to quite a number of Premier League clubs in the build-up to the winter window but right now, Everton are understood to be in pole position to land him.

Despite spending quite a lot of money on bringing in new signings over the summer, Everton struggled quite a lot in the initial stages of the season. They were close to falling into the relegation zone and that sent panic waves across. Eventually, Ronald Koeman got sacked and David Unsworth was appointed as the caretaker manager. He managed to steady the sails for a while and then Sam Allardyce took charge as the new manager.

Since then, the Toffees have enjoyed good form and are currently sitting comfortably at 9th place in the league table. However, to fuel their aspirations of a higher finish, they need a striker who can act as a goalscoring machine for the club. Ever since Romelu Lukaku left the club, Everton have struggled to find a reliable replacement. The lack of a proper striker caused a lot of issues for the club even when Koeman was in charge and Tosun has been identified as the prime target to address those issues.

Although Dominic Calvert-Lewin has temporarily filled the void at the club, the need for a new striker is quite strong. Having scored 12 goals so far for Besiktas across competitions, Tosun does seem like a viable option to add some much-needed power up front for the Toffees. In fact, once Tosun’s deal is finalised, that could also make way for Oumar Niasse to exit the club. Niasse has struggled to start regularly at Goodison Park and an exit is likely to benefit the player.

Everton have lacked a player like Tosun for the longest time now and to have him going into the rest of the season could prove to be a massive boost for Everton. In fact, this can also put them in the reckoning to secure a top half position at the very least. Last season, they finished 7th in the league but with the second half of the season ahead, the Toffees will be more than capable of doing a lot better.
