Cardiff City 0-3 Tottenham: Spurs back to winning ways after Wolves blip
Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways in style by beating Cardiff City 3-0 in Wales to go second in the table for now. Goals from Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son was enough to seal the points for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
After losing to Wolves at home in the weekend, it was important from Spurs’ perspective to strike back soon, and the game today was an opportunity for them. They started fast with a goal inside three minutes from Kane.
The goal came after Kieran Trippier put in a wonderful cross for Harry Kane to attack. Cardiff defended the situation clumsily and the ball eventually ricocheted off the England captain into the back of the net.
The away side doubled their nine minutes later when Eriksen swept in a good finish from the edge of the box. The lead was tripled in the 26th minute when a first-time ball from Kane found Son around the box. The South Korean took the ball a little wide before firing it through the legs of the defender, towards the far post and into the goal.
From that moment, it was damage limitation as far as Cardiff were concerned. For Spurs, they conserved energy, kept possession and made forays towards the final third but couldn’t get the fourth goal.
The defeat keeps the Welsh side at 16th place in the table, however, there are most teams playing their games tomorrow night. As for Tottenham, they are second in the table, one point clear of Manchester City and six behind leaders Liverpool. The Cityzens and the Reds face each other on Thursday night.
Here’s how the Spurs fans reacted on Twitter after a comfortable win:
Kane should’ve been rested, looked shite. Great result however 👍🏼
