A glimmer of hope? – Two clubs that Man United’s struggling superstar must consider including Barcelona

Manchester United Opinion: Two ideal destinations for Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is a Belgian central striker who currently plies his trade for English giants Manchester United in the Premier League. He is a former Anderlecht youth academy product who was scouted and signed by Chelsea in 2011.

After spells with West Brom and Everton, he finally ended up at United where he has failed to live up to the massive expectations that were placed on him. While he has made 23 appearances for them this term, a lot of them have come off the bench.

He has been an unarguably been important part of the United squad for a couple of seasons now and while he has contributed with 8 goals this campaign, it may end up being too much pressure for the Belgian forward to withstand.

Reports from the Mirror are suggesting that Manchester United are ready to cash in on the 25-year-old are also said to be looking at possible replacements in Paulo Dybala of Juventus and Mauro Icardi of Inter Milan.

While Lukaku is a top striker, the aforementioned options will certainly fit into United’s style of play a lot more as they are well suited to the dynamic and pacy nature of their attacking build-up. While Lukaku isn’t a slouch himself, he just seems to lack confidence and that can be the worst news for a top striker.

Having been dropped from the first team with Marcus Rashford being preferred in the forward role, let’s take a look at two clubs who could do with the Belgian’s services in the upcoming summer transfer:

FC Barcelona (Spain)

Having recently purchased fallen star Jerome Prince Boateng as a last-ditch attempt to bring in an additional centre-forward, Barcelona certainly have scope to strengthen in that position in the summer and given the situation, Romelu Lukaku could be the ideal player to come in and do a job.

Luis Suarez

First-choice striker Luis Suarez is 32 now and isn’t being used sparingly by leaders of La Liga. His fatigue is what prompted the signing of Boateng and Lukaku could be perfect for the role. While Boateng hasn’t been at the top of his game for a while now, Lukaku’s experience with one of the world’s biggest clubs will certainly play a part.

He would offer a different sort of option to Luis Suarez and could become a 2nd option that the manager could turn to depending on the type of opposition they are encountered by. This is a surefire success story and if it was to happen, the Belgian would be reinvigorated again.

Inter Milan (Italy)

Historically one of Europe’s biggest football clubs, Inter are facing the possibility of losing their most valuable stars with Manchester United said to be reviewing a possibility to bring Mauro Icardi to Old Trafford.

Mauro Icardi

If a deal was to take place, then Romelu Lukaku could act as the perfect make-weight in the deal as a direct swap would certainly be beneficial to both sides. While there will definitely be a cash fee involved from United’s end as well given Icardi’s form, this move really does suit both parties.

His direct style of play could require some getting used to for the Inter forward men but with a team as talented as theirs, a striker of the Belgian’s quality is bound to eventually prosper in what promises to be an excellent environment for his development.
