A Dream Newcastle United Line Up To Start This Season, And A Realistic One That Rafa Benitez Might Line Up

Even though Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League last season, there still seems to be a positive move at the club with the signing of a few decent players and manager Rafa Benitez staying put at the club.

The Magpies have shown that they are going to try their best to rebound from their relegation and the man for the job, Rafa Benitez, does seem to be putting together a fine squad which should be able to make it back to the Premier League if he gets his tactics right.

The signings of Dwight Gayle, Grant Hanley and Matt Ritchie should give them enough firepower over the long Championship season but the side are still in the hunt for a few big names and we list out what a dream line-up for Newcastle could be if they get all the top players they have been linked with recently.

Dream line-up for Newcastle United

The goalkeeper for the club would be Tim Krul, unless the Dutchman does not recover from his injury at the end of last season, it would be Matz Sels who cold deputise for him. The defence should see a bit of a shake up as a few players would be leaving the side.

The left-back slot should be taken up by Paul Dummet while the centre-backs should be new signing Grant Hanley and Chancel Mbemba, who performed admirably, even in a poor season for the Magpies last time around.

It would be a dream for the Magpies if they could hold onto Daryl Janmaat for the right-back slot as he seems destined to leave the club sooner rather than later.

The midfield duo should feature Jonjo Shelvey with Cheick Tiote and the main striker for the team should be Aleksandar Mitrovic with Fulham’s Ross McCormack playing just behind him.

The two wide men should be Newcastle boys Dwight Gayle on one side and Rolando Aarons on the other. This would be an extremely attacking team, something that Benitez might not be known for but it certainly would make for an exciting Championship ride for the fans.

Realistic line-up for Newcastle United

While the dream line-up would only remain a dream, Newcastle fans can look forward to a good season. Krul should remain as the number one keeper and it should be Hanley and Mbemba in the heart of the defence. Paul Dummet should stay as the left-back but Newcastle would be without Janmaat and it should be Massadio Haidara could be shifted to the right to accommodate the loss.

The midfield duo would actually feature Jack Colback and Cheick Tiote who would be given the job of keeping things tight while Jonjo Shelvey would be given a free role ahead of these two midfielders.

Shelvey would look to link up with Mitrovic, who should keep his place in the top of the attack while Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie would be playing as the wide men providing support to the attack.

This could be one of the toughest tests for Rafa Benitez and if he can get this group of rag-tag players performing together, Newcastle could easily make it back to the Premier League.
