Manchester United match report vs Valencia and Twitter reactions
Manchester United were unable to beat Valencia in the final group H game as the Spanish outfit triumphed 2-1 on the night. Valencia were already eliminated from the tournament but did well to stop the Red Devils from topping group H.
Given that Juventus stunningly lost to Young Boys handed Jose Mourinho’s side a chance to go to the summit but with a much changed line-up, the Old Trafford outfit were unable to do anything on the night.
Carlos Soler downed the English club in the 17th minute with a powerful finish to hand Valencia the lead. Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones scored an embarrassing own goal at the start of the second half to double Valencia’s lead.
Substitute Marcus Rashford continued his fine run of form in front of the goal by heading home in the 87th minute to hand United some slender hopes. But Valencia comfortably saw out the victory and ensured they spoilt United’s night.
Jose Mourinho did make 8 changes to his side given that the club will be facing Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League this weekend. Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku both return to the pitch but failed to make significant impacts.
The latter had a glorious chance to level the matters but somehow missed the target from close range with the goal gaping. United’s task of turning the game around took a turn for the worse when Jones failed to communicate properly with goalkeeper Sergio Romero and slid the all into the back of his own net.
Valencia have been very poor in the La Liga as well as the Champions League and yet, the Red Devils were unable to clinch all three points. It was fair to say Jose Mourinho didn’t look pleased at the post-match press conference. But he will now turn his attention to one of the most historic clashes in the Premier League this weekend.
Here’s how some Man United fans reacted to the loss.
This team continues to disappoint me this is ridiculous

Rashford gave everything for the shirt again. My striker.

I love this club and always will. We could’ve won, should’ve equalised. Too many mistakes all over the pitch. More negatives than positives but let’s stay positive. United forever! #MUFC

Haha, I don’t even have a good answer. We have a great history. It’s weird seeing us the way we are now but I know we’ll get back to winning ways. If we could get Roy Keane out of retirement for a season to beat some form into the team we might have a chance.

#Mourinho at fault for #Lukaku not being able to control a single ball, for #Pogba playing like that & for #Jones scoring that own goal. Trust me. That goal was another level of comical. Doesn’t even happen on #Fifa. Let’s blame Jose. Not #Woodward. We don’t need no signings.
