Fantastic Snodgrass, Average Grabban – The best and the worst rated Aston Villa players vs Hull City

Hull City 0-0 Aston Villa: Tigers and Villans Play Out A Goalless Draw

It wasn’t the most exciting of games at the KCOM stadium. Both teams had decent chances but none came to fruition and when Aston Villa pushed forward towards the end of the game, the Hull defence stood strong and repelled them back.

Villa will be disappointed as the game was there for the taking. A win would have given them a chance to chase automatic promotion but Hull had other ideas.

Adomah had the best chance for Aston Villa and Angus MacDonald had a decent effort in the second half. However, a draw seems like a fair result.

Aston Villa Player Ratings

Sam Johnstone – 7/10

Johnstone didn’t have one of the busiest games of his life but he managed to deal with everything that was thrown at him. He also kept possession for his team when necessary and passed the ball around well.

Axel Tuanzebe – 7/10

Won a good amount of challenges and also dispossessed the opposition on a couple of occasions. Played a good game down the right flank.

James Chester – 7/10

The Villa centre-back had a decent game, winning some of his aerial challenges and tackles. Marshalled the back-four well.

John Terry – 7/10

A solid performance by Terry alongside Chester ensured that it was a bad day all round for the Hull strikers. The experienced player has held the back four very well for Villa this season.

Alan Hutton – 7/10

Alan Hutton did nothing extraordinary but still kept Hull City team fairly quiet, doing his job well.

John Terry

Mile Jedinak – 7/10

Jedinak put in a typical performance in the midfield for Villa, making some good tackles and breaking up the play.

Albert Adomah – 6/10

Adomah will be disappointed with his performance today. He had a golden chance to put Villa ahead but squandered it.

Henri Lansbury – 6/10

Passed the ball around well and commanded the midfield quite well. Did nothing special.

Jack Grealish – 7/10

Had a decent game and showed some of the skills that he has been lauded for this season. He didn’t do enough to get the breakthrough that Villa needed.

Robert Snodgrass – 8/10

A Premier League player plying his trade in the Championship, and this was evident in this game again. His work rate down the right-wing was immense. He dispossessed Hull eight times, won four aerial challenges, had seven successful dribbles and also had a good shot on goal. He looked a class above today.

Jack Grealish

Lewis Grabban – 6/10

Did not have a good game and it was quite surprising that he stayed on the pitch for the whole game. No shots on goal the whole game and it seemed like he was only interested in getting involved in fights.

Substitutes

Jonathan Kodjia – 6/10

Replaced Jedinak after 62 minutes but didn’t really do anything of note.

Ahmed Elmohamady – 6/10

Came on in the 75th minute to replace Tuanzebe to try and add some legs to the right-wing.

Scott Hogan – 6/10

Came on in the 83rd minute to try and add an extra goal-scoring threat but it didn’t really go to plan.
