Manchester United have targeted a number of top players in the summer. They need to bolster their squad by a long way and they have already made the blueprint roping in a number of new additions and a new manager to execute the plans.
Among their many targets, one of the most high profile is Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos, who may well be on his way to England soon. The 24 year old has reportedly denied to sign a contract extension with Bayern and United are looking at this as a perfect opportunity to cash in on the unstable situation. His current contract extends till 2015 and if they fail to convince him to sign a fresh term, then Bayern could sell him off to another club to compensate monetarily.
United would gain immensely from such a player and the sheer quality that he will bring into the side will prove vital to steer the club back into the European glory. The player’s agent has denied any reports of him joining United very soon and stated that he will be playing at Bayern till his contract ends. But it does not seem meaningful for the Germans to let him go as he is a type of player who fits in the Pep Guardiola mould perfectly. His knack of keeping the possession on the field, makes him an important member of the squad and all the supporters expect him to renew his contract very soon. Recently he was also seen unveiling the Bayern jersey for next season along with Robben and Muller. But let us take a look at some of the statistics that he has wrapped up from this season.
Muller has featured into Pep’s side 29 times this season, with 5 occasions where he has come off the bench. There is no shortage of attacking midfielders in the Bayern squad and that has harmed his gametime. But still he has made the most of his playing minutes on the field.
Toni Kroos is known for his precise passing and thus he fits Pep’s style like none other. His 92% of average pass accuracy validates that and makes him one of the best in the business in that respect. His average passing length is also 19m, a figure which is bound to go up with his proposed transfer to United.
Playing in the attacking midfield, his average duels won stands at 54%, definitely an impressive number and just a slight hint of how vital he can be in the physically dominated Premier League.
One area where Kroos lags is the average shot accuracy. That shows a number of 36%, certainly not justifying the talents that Kroos possesses. He has to work on that, if he has to shine for United in the central position and with the help from Van Gaal, Kroos will be surely able to become one of the better shooters.
This season Kross has had 2 goals and 4 assists from the league matches that he has played and with players like Van Persie, Rooney and Mata in the side, he will also benefit as a player.
Therefore, we can conclude that although Kroos to United is still far way off, United supporters can keep their fingers crossed about Kroos’ situation.
