Manchester City is easily the best team in the Premier League right now. The amount of money Pep Guardiola spent on the squad during the summer has meant that the manager has enough quality for the challenges that lie ahead. However, the door is always open for improvement and no manager would say no to such a chance.
Italian youngster Lorenzo Pellegrini has now been linked with Man City. Having moved to Roma after spending his time at Sassuolo last season, the Italian U21 international is one of the most exciting talents in Italy at the moment. Sky Sports claim that City had scouts watching him in Roma’s most recent game and that they could make a move for him soon. But, is Pellegrini a smart move by Pep?
Known for his ability to score goals from long range or pick up passes to break defences with ease, the 21-year old is a central midfielder by trait, who loves to have the ball at his feet. He is hardly ever wasteful with the ball and loves to keep it simple but is more than capable of dribbling past opponents and setting up goals.
He is strong in the air and in hold-up play, and will surely find it easy in the Premier League. His defensive discipline and accuracy in passing is something he can work on but at the moment, he is only improving and is a genuine star for the future.
At just 21, Pellegrini has 9 goals and 8 assists in 52 Serie A appearances to add to 7 European appearances. He has also made his debut for the Italian senior side but is still an important part of the U21 side, establishing himself as an indispensable part of the squad.
He is also used regularly by AS Roma, where he has picked up an assist in four games this season. He’s a player who is learning quickly.
However, playing for a manager like Pep Guardiola is sure to make him better. Pellegrini has the attributes to become a success in England and though he is still too young to make a permanent switch, he is easily good enough to make it.
There are very few managers better than Guardiola to nurture young talent and playing alongside the likes of Leroy Sane, Benjamin Mendy, Gabriel Jesus and even Raheem Sterling is bound to make Pellegrini feel comfortable.
If he can become a star is a question for the future but at the moment, Pellegrini is one player who Guardiola needs to sign up quickly, especially with interest from their arch rivals as well.
