9 goals, 5 assists – This in-form La Liga hotshot could be the ideal striker for Everton and Silva must get him

Why Maxi Gomez could be the answer to Everton’s goalscoring woes

It’s no secret Everton are in dire need of a bonafide goalscorer, having watched both Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse struggle to find the net this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, scored in the 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend but remains highly inconsistent.

Cenk Tosun, 27, joined Everton from Besiktas amidst a lot of fanfare in January 2018 but has struggled to cope with the demands of the Premier League, managing only two goals from 15 league appearances this season.

The Turkish star has failed to cement his place in Silva’s team and it seems like he is not up to the mark to lead the line at Goodison Park. Oumar Niasse, 28, on the other hand, has only managed 10 minutes of league football since September.

And the Liverpool Echo now reports that Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands is willing to sell the struggling pair this month. Going by the report, it would be good for the Toffees as the potential sales of Tosun and Niasse could fund new signings in January.

That said, Marco Silva must make a move for Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gomez to offer competition to the likes of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin.

Maxi Gomez, 22, joined Celta Vigo from Defensor de Montevideo in the summer of 2017. It took him some time to adapt to Spanish football and after a year and a half, he has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers in La Liga.

The Uruguayan has scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 17 league appearances this season. Capable of leading the leading the line all by his own or act as a secondary striker, Maxi Gomez is a player blessed with immense strength, power, aerial prowess and a decent turn of pace. He is capable of creating, scoring and playing with his back facing the goal.

The 22-year-old boasts of some clinical finishing ability, decision making, dribbling and hold-up play – the qualities Marco Silva is certainly looking out for to lead his team’s line.

With his bulky presence and exquisite passing range, Maxi Gomez excels in bringing his teammates into play. He has time and again shown his quality in front of the goal this season and at 22, his best days are definitely ahead of him.

But as per Marca, any club that tries to sign Gomez in January will have to trigger the €50million release clause. The Uruguayan is a quality forward and Everton need to spend big to sign him. Gomez might exactly be what the Toffees need.
