9 goals, 11 assists – Liverpool signing this 26-year-old Belgian star would be a win-win for both parties involved

Liverpool opinion: Should the Reds make a move for Thorgan Hazard?

Italian news outlet Calciomercato have reported that Liverpool are very keen on making a move for Bundesliga star Thorgan Hazard. Currently contracted to Borussia Monchengladbach, the forward has been exceptional, so far this season.

This includes 9 goals and 11 assists, alongside the fact that he’s played 96% of the games this season. However, what does make him perfect for Liverpool is his unbelievable defensive work-rate, combined with his versatility to play across the line.

Often used as a centre-forward by Gladbach, the Belgian has proven to be a great team player, using his abilities all over the pitch. But unlike his older brother Eden Hazard, Thorgan’s game isn’t really about his speed.

While he does possess great acceleration and agility, the younger Hazard opts to use his intelligence and close control, like his brother. It’s this quality that has made the 26-year-old a lethal forward in the Bundesliga.

He’s also always on the lookout for that quick one-two pass to set-up teammates. It’s this very ability that has seen Borussia Dortmund and now Liverpool show an interest in making a move for him.

Not only that, the Evening Standard has reported that Thorgan Hazard has already told Borussia Monchengladbach that he wants to leave. This makes him ripe for the picking and thus gives Liverpool a chance.

With Sadio Mane heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid (Daily Mail), few replacements would be as good as Thorgan Hazard.

But like most footballers, the 26-year-old is not perfect and has his share of weakness. He’s often been labelled as a physically weak player and he’s never played in the Premier League. Despite the fact that he spent nearly three years at Chelsea.

Instead, he was sent out on multiple loan spells, with his final one ending at Borussia Monchengladbach. It’s here that Hazard really honed his skills, improving his mentality and physicality which has helped the 26 year old flourish.

Yet for Liverpool, this is a move that they should only make if they are to lose Sadio Mane. Otherwise, it’s a waste of time, money and a talented player.

Conclusion

While Thorgan Hazard may not be his brother, the resemblances are there. But once again, as mentioned above, a move would only benefit both parties if the Reds lose Sadio Mane in the summer.
