83% Pass Accuracy Last Season To 81% Now: Why Leaving Chelsea Would Be The Right Thing For This Brazilian Playmaker

Share

Let us all be honest here, Chelsea have not had the best season and most of their players have been poor. Jose Mourinho’s sacking and the replacement of the Portuguese manager with Guus Hiddink might have brought some relief to the club that felt like it could get relegated but Chelsea are far from the Champions League qualification spots and even the Europa League looks a tight squeeze for Roman’s millionaire footballers.

One player has been brilliant all season for the Blues and that is Willian but another Brazilian should have been growing at a similar rate or at least, putting in those great performances. Oscar, who had been one of those players who can produce magic on his day, hasn’t lived up to the billing this time around.

Whether it was the issue with Jose Mourinho is his own playing ability, there seems to be something wrong with the Brazilian and his stats prove that as well.

Oscar on the way down

There comes a time in the career for every player to decide whether he wants to stay at the club or not. Wayne Rooney has pulled this magic trick on Manchester United a few times and has ended up with a fat pay cheque but some players look for playing time and also look forward to improving their skills.

Oscar has been amongst the goals for Chelsea this season but not as often as he would like. Comparing his season with the last one, it clearly shows that his form his dipped and his ability to impact games has also taken a hit.

Last season the Brazilian averaged 38 successful passes per game but this season it has come down to 32 in the Premier League. Not only that his pass completion has come down by two percent, from 83 last season to 81, which shouldn’t make a lot of difference in the grand scheme of things.

A few other stats have also taken a hit; the number of chances created on average per game has also gone down from 1.32 last season to 1.09 this season. His goal scoring form has also taken a big hit with the him scoring 0.13 goals per game compared to 0.21 he managed last season per game.

There are a couple of facets of his game which have improved this season as well. His success rate on taking on defenders has increased to 39% compared to 37% last season. Even in overall duels his numbers have increased from 39% last season to 47%.

His defensive work rate though has also taken a hit with the number of interceptions made per game going down to 0.43 per game from 0.54 last season.

All this does point to the fact that the 24-year-old has to move to another club if he wants to improve his stats and grow in his career. Chelsea might not be the suitable club for him now and at the peak of his career, he needs to take a decision and fast.
