76 goals, 20 assists in the PL – Signing this top-class Chelsea star would solve West Ham’s goal-scoring woes

Why West Ham United should definitely go for Olivier Giroud

According to the Mirror, West Ham United are poised to make a move for Olivier Giroud in January. The Chelsea striker was linked with a move to the Hammers but ultimately joined the Blues last season.

The Frenchman now has less than a year left on his contract and could be on the move once again. West Ham United have struggled to find goalscorers in their squad this season, with most of the burden being placed on Marko Arnautovic. (Mirror)

Manuel Pellegrini should definitely go for Giroud when the transfer window opens. He would not only prove to be a massive upgrade on Andy Carroll but the Frenchman can lead the line at the London Stadium.

Giroud is a proven and prolific goal scorer in the Premier League. After initially finding himself on the bench at Chelsea, the former Arsenal striker has now taken up the first-team role with Alvaro Morata being dropped to the bench.

West Ham United have struggled to find the back of the net when their Austrian talisman has not featured but with the acquisition of Giroud, Pellegrini will be able to solve the dilemma once and for all.

The French striker has scored a total of 76 goals and provided 28 assists in 200 Premier League appearances. Except for the last two seasons, Giroud has scored more than 10 goals in every other campaign. He was also very influential for the France national team as they marched their way to World Cup glory. The 32-year-old is known for his ability to link up well in the final third before slotting the ball into the back of the net. The likes of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko will surely be able to create a lot more chances with Giroud leading the line. A countless number of times, West Ham have failed to kill off moves due to a lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Giroud would bring that cutting edge to the team. He is a hard-working striker who often doesn’t receive the praise for his perseverance and determination on the field. Though he is yet to pick up a single goal this season, Giroud has already got 4 assists to his name and has proven to be a proper squad member. (Stats courtesy – Premier League)

That’s exactly why Manuel Pellegrini should sign the striker in January. What Pellegrini needs is someone who will help the team work as a unit up front, and the perfect man for that job would be Olivier Giroud.
