Liverpool opinion: Jurgen Klopp should sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund

According to The Mirror, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that the Reds were keen to bring Jadon Sancho to Anfield before he sealed his move to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City.

Klopp also said that Liverpool didn’t stand a chance to sign the then 17-year-old because Pep Guardiola’s side refused to sell him to an English club.

Sancho’s performances this season has caught the attention of the world and have attracted the biggest names in world football including Premier League giants Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. The Englishman won’t be cheap despite costing Dortmund just £8million.

Liverpool already have a fearsome forward line with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah with Xherdan Shaqiri providing backup.

Liverpool were linked to another Englishman in Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi in January but a move is very unlikely as the Blues will not sell to a direct rival. Liverpool should move for Jadon Sancho in the summer but will have a lot of competition for the 18-year-old.

Jadon Sancho has been on fire for the Black and Yellow this campaign and his link-up play with skipper Marco Reus has been deadly in the final third. Sancho has scored 7 goals and has 9 assists in the Bundesliga so far.

Sancho has mainly played on the right wing but is also capable of playing on the left or through the middle as a number 10.

Sancho has averaged a brilliant 3.2 dribbles per game and 1.9 key passes every game so far this season. Sancho has been unselfish in front of goal too and has often passed to a teammate despite being in a position to shoot.

When playing on the right, the 18-year-old has the ability to both take on the opposition full-back on the outside or cut inside the defender into the box before shooting or passing to a teammate.

Sancho has a brilliant first touch and is very good in 1v1 situations. He will fit in well in Jurgen Klopp’s counter pressing system and will learn a lot from the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Sancho’s pace and ability to dribble past defenders is something that will excite the former Dortmund boss and his addition will surely get the fans buzzing.

Borrusia Dortmund have made it clear that the asking price for Jadon Sancho will be similar to what Barcelona paid for Ousmane Dembele which is well over the £100 million mark. Liverpool will need to spend big to land the Englishman but it is an investment that will pay off over the next decade.
