6ft 5in colossus could be the final piece of Sean Dyche’s outstanding Burnley line-up

Why signing Peter Crouch could be a masterstroke for Burnley this summer

Burnley must gear up for a new adventure after making it back to Europe this season. The Clarets have returned after a 51-year wait and Sean Dyche has done a splendid job at Turf Moor, with his well-drilled Burnley side defying all odds last season.

There’s barely two weeks left for the transfer window to shut and Burnley must bolster the squad with some new additions. The club are yet to make a transfer this season and but they should do it sooner rather than later.

Burnley have been linked with Stoke City striker Peter Crouch over the last few days. The Clarets are reportedly interested in luring the former Liverpool striker, who could provide the squad with some added depth and cover. Burnley have reportedly prepared £500,000 deal to lure the 37-year-old striker.

Stoke City were relegated from the Premier League last season and the prospect of playing in Europe could tempt the striker to move to Turf Moor. He has a year left on his current Stoke contract, but with Benik Afobe in the mix, Crouch’s future looks bleak.

Crouch is an experienced striker and has been plying his trade in England since his youth days at Tottenham Hotspur. The lofty striker then went on to enjoy impressive spells with Portsmouth, Liverpool, Tottenham and finally Stoke City. He has made a total of 202 appearances for the Potters, scoring 45 goals in that time. The striker has also been capped 42 times by the England national team.

The 37-year-old is a tall and agile striker whose dominant presence in the box makes it hard for opposition defenders. Crouch has the ability to surprise anyone with his ability on the ball. He is a master at winning aerial balls and crosses while also posing a huge threat from set-pieces.

He made a total of 31 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists in that time. However, his efforts were not enough to save the Potters from the drop.

It’s clear that the 37-year-old cannot expect a regular role in the Clarets’ squad but he will provide ample cover for the likes of Chris Wood, Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes. Burnley will require all hands on deck as they embark on a new journey this year and Dyche should certainly make the move for the veteran striker.
