6 Things Learnt From Arsenal’s Season So Far

After 7 games into the season, Arsenal are in 7th place in the table with 12 points. With 3 wins, 3 draws and a defeat one can say it is a much better start to the season than last year but it is a start which needs to be improved if they are planning to challenge for the title.

Arsenal started the season with a couple of draws against Sunderland and Stoke, though Sunderland’s game could have been won it can be excused since it was the first game of the season. The next one – Stoke away is always a difficult game for any team and coming away with 1 point is not a bad result. Then came a couple of impressive victories against Liverpool and Southampton before being held at Manchester City and followed by a defeat to Chelsea. Though Arsenal are in 7th place it can be said they have made a decent start to the season. After travelling to Anfield, Etihad, Britania and also facing Chelsea at home the Gunners have lost only one game which is not that bad far a team which lost almost half of their games this time last year.

New signings Podolski and Giroud has made an excellent start to their Arsenal career

So we will take a look at 5 things that we have learned so far from Arsenal’s season.

1) The transfer window. That may sound weird, but the signature of Cazorla and the departure of Song is a blessing in disguise for Arsenal, with Arteta taking up the holding midfielder role, Cazorla is playing more of a free role further up the field and has been excellent in the few games he has played. Arteta is also doing a good job in the new role this season and if Wilshere is back then it would be more interesting to see what Wenger does with him.

2) Having Podolski and Giroud upfront rather than relying too much on Robin Van Persie is much better for the Gunners, soooo yeah, I’d say Podolski+Giroud > Former no.10 also.

Giroud just getting into his rhythm slowly

3) Massive improvement from Gibbs, Jenkinson and even Mertesaker leading to a much better defense with a lot of depth and if Sagna returns from his injury he can provide he can only add to the quality of the back 4. A point to be noted – Arsenal have let in only 5 goals in the league so far which is 2nd least amount of goals let in so far by any team which is a rare stat for Arsenal and new head coach Steve Bould can be said the soul reason behind this.

4) The players most people complain about are either a)not playing/barely playing (Squillaci, Chamakh, Djourou…) or b)still being criticized but getting good numbers (Walcott, Gervinho). One can say Arsenal don’t have many weak links in their team which has been hard to say in recent seasons.

5) When Jack Wilshere, Rosicky, Frimpong, Sagna all return to fitness Arsenal will have amazing depth in the squad. Arsene Wenger does not have to rely on any player heavily as there are quality players for every position this season.

Return of Wilshere, Rosicky and Frimpong will add more glamour to the midfield
6) No panic signings like last year and only calculated ones from Wenger has proved to be more effective. The manager has given the clear message that if u don’t respect the club u can leave, which was a shot in the face for complaining players like Walcott and Sagna.
