6 Games, No Wins, No Goals – Why Crystal Palace Are Primed For Relegation This Season

Surely Yes? – Why Crystal Palace Are Certain To Get Relegated This Season

Having survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season, Crystal Palace made some big money signings in the summer in order to avoid any such disasters this season. But, the Eagles once again find themselves in the relegation zone and a manager down just five games into the season.

Add to that, the London club are yet to win a Premier League game this season having lost all six of the games they have played so far. This is also the worst start to a Premier League season in the history of the club. Frank de Boer already got the sack from the owners with continuous failures despite a strong squad on paper.

The fact that Palace are yet to score a single goal in the Premier League shows the kind of deep pit they are in at the moment. Despite signing the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both on loan), Mamadou Sakho and Jairo Riedewald, Palace have completely failed get a result so far in the League.

It’s quite obvious now that Palace are headed for relegation this season and it is pretty much too late for a recovery having brought in a new manager after the sacking of De Boer. One might have thought that Palace would likely bring in a relegation battle expert, but they instead opted for the man who was at the helm of England’s Euro 2016 failure, Roy Hodgson.

The 70-year-old manager who was sacked from the England job after the Euro debacle, was unemployed until Crystal Palace came knocking at his door. Considering how his first two league games in-charge have gone, it looks like the English manager is only going to make things even worse himself as well as the club as the season progresses.

The pundits have never been a fan of the 70-year-old Englishman and have constantly criticised him for his debacle at Liverpool FC. Hodgson who was in charge of the Merseyside club in the past was sacked just six months into his role as head coach of the Reds.

Although he did enjoy decent success with Fulham and West Brom in the past, it was nothing commendable or inspiring. Things might get even worse for Crystal Palace and the club’s fans as they prepare for three extremely tough fixtures in a row with Mancheter United and Chelsea all coming up, after their drubbing at the hands of Manchester City.

Hodgson has a tough task at his hands and must do everything he possibly can to get any kind of result from these upcoming fixtures. With Wilfried Zaha yet to return from injury, Palace will find it hard to get goals and might have to depend heavily on their summer signings.

Despite the bad results, Loftus-Cheek and Sakho have show grit and determination in the games so far and could play a big role in the coming games for the Eagles. Can Roy Hodgson pull off a miracle and save Palace from relegation? Or will the Eagles set a new record for the number of relegations? Only time will tell.
