Scout Report – Ross McCormack
Talks are ongoing for Burnley to take Chris Woods from Leeds for around £20million and if the Kiwi leaves, the rumour is that Ross McCormack could head to Elland Road.
The 25-year-old Wood has been linked with a move away from West Yorkshire all summer and Burnley have appeared increasingly anxious to get him on board, especially after having allowed Andre Gray to join Watford. A deal worth £12million plus add-ons has already been rejected by Leeds from Burnley, though they are certain to return with an improved offer for the New Zealand international.
McCormack has had his ups and downs for sure and with all that history what would a scout say about him now? Read on!
History
Having started his pro career at Ibrox with Rangers, McCormack gained experience at Doncaster Rovers and Motherwell before his breakthrough move to Cardiff City in 2008. Having scored 25 goals in 74 league games in Wales, he joined Leeds United in 2010.
After four years, 144 league games, 53 goals and having become club captain, McCormack left Leeds United in a big money move to Fulham. More success followed over the following two years but once again, there was little loyalty to be seen, when McCormack moved to Aston Villa last summer.
Villa has been thoroughly miserable for McCormack and the club cannot wait to unload him. Also – how much could Fulham have done with a striker last season? He could have been a Premier League player now with the West London club.
Style Of Play
His passing is decent and he does not shy away from receiving the ball, though his penchant for a long range shot in open play is probably a negative for him. That said, he is a good free-kick taker from around the area.
McCormack uses his strength to keep hold of the ball well and bring others into play, something which could be well used at Leeds, with the likes of Alioski and Roofe in the squad.
His Future
If everything Steve Bruce has told the press is true, then McCormack doesn’t have many options left and has shown little loyalty in his career till date.
What might help is that he has played at Leeds before and was popular back then, though there has been a lot of water under the bridge and a lot of mistakes made. He does need another chance now though and the move could suit his needs.
